We are looking for a new team member, this time we seek for a Bioinformatician/Data analyst. We are a young spin-off company of CRG (Centre for Genomic Regulation) and ICREA (Institución Catalana para la Investigación y Estudios Avanzados) expert in genomics and metagenomics solutions created to answer novel and traditional questions in areas such as Health Care, Life Sciences, Agriculture, Food Industry and Environmental Industry. We combine computational and molecular biology tools with high throughput sequencing to set up and develop technologies to  transform genomic data into knowledge.

Job description:

The candidate will play a transversal role, providing assistance to several ongoing projects by the development and maintenance of analysis pipelines and databases. The person will be responsible for the bioinformatics analysis of raw sequencing data of various types and of the development of databases for data mining and knowledge discovery processes. In addition he/she will be involved in several R+D projects and will assist in reporting results to customers. The person in this position will integrate a multidisciplinary team and will collaborate with other members of the company, he/she will directly report to the COO and responsable of the bioinformatics department.

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate with a background in Bioinformatics or related disciplines (Degree in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computer Science with a Masters in Bioinformatics). The candidate will have sufficient knowledge to set up and run pipelines for genomics and metagenomics data analysis. Programming skills in python, R, or related languages and knowledge of the Linux environment are essential. Additional skills awill be: IT administration knowledge, database development and a good level of spoken and written English.

We are looking for a new member for our team, this time we need to incorporate an area manager for the Marketing and Commercial department. We are a spin-off company of the CRG (Center for Genomic Regulation) and ICREA (Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies) specialized in innovative metagenomic and genomic solutions for new and traditional questions in the Pharmacy, Health, Agri-Food, Industry of consumer goods and environment. The comprehensive mastery of computational tools and molecular biology and massive sequencing technologies allows us to constantly innovate, adapting and developing technology based on knowledge originated in the research field.

Job description

The candidate selected in this position will play a transversal role in the sales and marketing area. In coordination with the COO, it will assume the following tasks:

– Analysis of the client portfolio. Management of recruitment and sales, development together with the Operating Director of the marketing plan, marketing strategy and sales promotion.

– Responsible for compliance with the sales budget of your portfolio.

– Commercial visits previously analyzing the client’s situation. Availability to travel. Priority area of ​​action / influence: Catalonia, Valencia / Navarra / Aragon / Madrid.

– Responsible for attracting new clients and portfolio growth. Development of customer databases, customer segmentation, digital marketing campaigns and social media management.

– Responsible for the introduction of new products / innovations. You will be involved in the brand and corporate identity developments of the products. You will understand the technical specifications and differential arguments of the services and products marketed by attending R & D & I meetings.

– It will also help in reporting tasks and must interact with clients. The person in this position will integrate and collaborate with other members of the company and will report directly to the CEO, COO and CSO. The activities will take place in our offices in Barcelona.

Requierements

We are looking for a candidate with training in related disciplines, preferably Bachelor of Health Sciences, Biology, Genetics, Pharmacy (Degree in Bioinformatics, Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or Computer Science, Marketing and commerce, Digital Marketing, Sales Department, Online Commerce ). The candidate person will have the following qualities:

– Driving license B.

– Person accustomed to conducting negotiations with different levels of dialogue, as well as with the capacity for public relations. High communication skills, interdisciplinarity and ability to negotiate with different client profiles and good presence.

– Good level of spoken and written English and Spanish. Knowledge of Catalan will be positively valued.

– The autonomy and ability to manage their work time will be positively valued, as well as the aptitudes for teamwork, punctuality and interest in personal growth and promotion. The management and creation of databases, statistical analysis and experience in portfolio managers will also be considered a positive argument.

Labor conditions

– The candidate will have various training tools: internal training meetings with the COO, access to the offer of training courses from the PRBB-CRG, among others.

– As work tools, you will have your own location (desk), business telephone, your own desktop computer, printed and online corporate material and Tablet.

– Starting salary 26,500E gross + variables for objectives to be negotiated. Initial 6-month trial contract.

This call offers experienced researchers the possibility to develop applied research projects within their area of interest. In this case Microomics (www.microomics.eu) is actively doing research and development within the field of machine learning and exploitation of metagenomics databases for monitoring, diagnostic, and predictive purposes. The candidate would be integrated within the research and development team in our premises at Barcelona and collaborate actively with other researchers at Microomics and work under the direct supervision of our CSO Toni Gabaldón, and our CEO/COO Pedro González.  The ideal candidate would have the following skills/abilities:

– PhD degree or more than four years of research experience in areas related to: genomics, metagenomics, microbiology, computer science, machine learning, big data analysis or database managing and exploitation.

– Full fill all requirements from the above mentioned call, including the mobility requirement: not having resided in Spain for 12 months or more in the last three years.

– Excellent communication skills in English.

– Knowledge of one or more programming language (i.e. python, R, C++, Java, etc).

– Prior experience in machine learning will be highly valued.

Job descrption:

The candidate will assist several ongoing projects while developing and managing the company web page, intranet and specific databases. He/she will also develop an online marketplace and intranet to strengthen the communication with clients. Moreover, he/she will aid on several extra tasks as the development of pipelines for genomics and metagenomics data analysis and server/system administration. The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and will directly report to the CEO, COO, and CSO. The position will be held in our facilities in Barcelona.

Molecular Laboratory assistant

We have an opening for a laboratory assistant to support the day-to-day laboratory upkeep and NGS workflows.

Microomics is a spin-off company of the CRG (Center for Genomic Regulation) and ICREA (Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies) specialized in providing solutions in the field of metagenomics. We are located in Barcelona (Spain) at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) within a very stimulating environment for science and research. With a highly innovative profile, our philosophy and objective is to transform genomic data into knowledge that contributes to the development of society through sustainable growth and the improvement of health and well-being.

Description of the job:

The candidate will be responsible for providing support in the molecular biology lab. This person will carry out sample preparation from nucleic acid extraction to PCR and sequencing library preparation. The candidate will participate in Microomics’ own R+D+i projects as well as day-to-day lab production for services.  This person will work closely with the Lab Manager but will also interact with the rest of the Microomics’ team.

Requirements:

Background in Biology, Microbiology and/or Biotechnology. A laboratory technician degree is desirable (i.e. Spanish’ formación en nivel técnico superior).

At least six months experience in molecular biology are required

Good organization skills and attention to detail are a must.

Good English level as understanding of bioinformatics and statistical knowledge are a plus.

New Data Analyst in Microomics

We welcome Dr. Belén Carbonetto to our team

She will be our Data Analyst and Metagenomics Specialist.

Belén has wide experience in NGS data analysis, mainly for the study of microbiomes by barcoding sequencing and metagenómics. She has a broad background as a researcher  working with interdisciplinary teams in several international institutions.

She will lead Microomics one step forward in Bioinformatics by developing customized solutions and taking advantage of her knowledge and skills as a natural transition from the academy to the applied sciences.

Her contribution will help the evolution and creation of services and products by bringing innovation to our I+D+i projects.

New Lab Manager in Microomics

We welcome to our team to Nuria Escudero, who will fill the position of Lab Manager of Microomics Systems S.L.

Nuria Escudero is a PhD specialized in plant pathology and biological control at the molecular level. During her research career she has applied different -omics techniques to the study plant parasitic nematodes, antagonist microorganisms, and plant interactions. Nuria has collaborated with both national and international research institutions as well as agricultural companies.

Her incorporation to Microomics means for her a natural professional transition and personal growth, both from the applied research, and from a technical perspective. Therefore, in her position as Lab Manager she will exploit communicative aspects and her skills to adapt and bring the most relevant technological developments to academics and companies in the sector, incorporating emerging technologies as she has been doing throughout her professional career.

Given her research profile, her incorporation into the Microomics team supposes a boost in the R+D+i area of the company. With a broad knowledge in molecular techniques, her incorporation is a key decision for the laboratory area of ​​the company, also contributing significantly to the improvement of our services, their evolution and technological updating, with the purpose of being always at the forefront of new technologies that put NGS sequencing at the service of our society.

With the incorporation of Nuria Escudero, Microomics also incorporates strategic expertise for the agricultural sector, thus covering one of the main areas of interest for the application of NGS. Additional skills that will be considered positively, include good level of spoken and written English as well as statistical and bioinformatics skills.
